When you’ve heard of LED light therapy beds, it’s likely that you are thinking of a device used in tanning salons or in a medical spa to treat skin conditions like acne and hyperpigmentation. Alternatively, some people buy these devices for at-home use to achieve the same results. However, these full-body LED beds don’t necessarily provide the best results based on the way they are designed.

Red light therapy (also known as LLLT or photobiomodulation) uses the healing power of low-level lasers and red LED light to rejuvenate skin, reduce wrinkles and treat a number of physical conditions. In fact, hundreds of medical and university studies confirm that this non-invasive treatment is safe and effective for almost anyone.
To be effective, the light needs to reach the cells that need a boost of energy and nutrients. This is why the Celluma DELUX was specifically designed to be flexible, shape-taking and contoured to be able to hug body parts close to the body to increase the effectiveness of LED therapy. A bed with large panels is not a good design for this because the light emitting diodes are far too distant from the areas being treated to be effective.
Another problem with many LED beds is that they are not properly designed to avoid burning the skin. These devices claim to have a combination of red and near infrared light and some even use the term “cold laser” to confuse consumers. However, it is important to understand that if the device does not have the proper wattage and wavelength of the red/near infrared light it cannot be considered a cold laser or a low-level laser. Also, the use of pulsed light is a common marketing gimmick that does not improve effectiveness or safety and should be avoided.
